Jenny Bankie

[financial manager]

Jenny Bankie received a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2010. As an undergraduate, Jennifer was an intern for Audubon Colorado, The Nature Conservancy, and the 2008 Democratic Convention Sustainability and Greening Committee. Before starting at UCSB, Jenny spent three summers as a seasonal ranger at Muir Woods National Monument and worked as a consultant for the corporate social responsibility and global development non-profit UniversalGiving. At the Bren School, Jenny is focusing on climate and energy. Upon completing her program, Jenny would like to work on climate change mitigation and adaptation for a private firm or think tank.

Kaitlin Carney

[web manager]

Kaitlin graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies. During this time her studies were focused in two fields, marine ecology and sustainable planning and design. After taking some time to travel through Costa Rica, Kaitlin returned to UCSB to join the Bren School. Once again, she will combine her interests with a specialization in Coastal Marine Resources Management and this master's project. In addition, Kaitlin will add the USGBC's Green Associate accredidation to her belt as she works with a team of students to LEED certify a UCSB campus building.

Michelle Graff

[project manager]

Michelle graduated from Brown in 2013 with a degree in Geochemistry. The summer before starting at Bren, she biked across the country with the organization Bike & Build to raise money for and awareness about affordable housing. Along the way, Michelle volunteered on Habitat for Humanity build sites, where she developed her interest in sustainable development. Michelle is currently specializing in Energy & Climate and is specifically interested in the built environment, energy efficiency, and community engagement around sustainability initiatives. This summer she will be working for the City of Boston on their Greenovate Boston campaign, with work focused on reporting and reducing the energy use of large buildings.

Amy Stuyvesant

[data manager]

Amy Stuyvesant received a BA in geography/environmental studies from UCLA in 2014. She graduated with departmental honors and double minored in conservation biology and GIS. In 2013 she became an undergraduate research fellow where she completed an honors thesis on the effects of increased hurricane activity on soil nutrient content in tropical rainforests of Puerto Rico. Focusing on global change factors lead Amy to further pursue the effects of such factors felt directly by local communities and how these effects are controlled. After UCLA, Amy spent a year working at Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in the captive wildlife office where she became more acquainted with the legal process’ role in protecting wildlife. Amy is looking to blend her field and lab knowledge with her professional experience to help communities adapt to the globally changing environment, bringing her to the Bren school where she is currently specializing in pollution prevention and remediation. With this focus, Amy is interested in reducing various types of pollution at the source in order to support healthy communities.
